	エコアイランド宮古島宣言
私たちの宮古島は、エメラルドグリーンの海といろとりどりの植物、そしてまばゆい太陽(てぃだ)の輝く南の島です。四方を海に囲まれ、隆起サンゴ礁からなる低い平坦な地形は、台風や干ばつの被害を受けやすく厳しい自然環境にあります。生活用水を含め水源の全てを地下水に頼っている現状と合わせ、住民の生活及び産業を潤す重要な要素である海との相互保全は、重要な課題となっております。 　そのような中、今、世界的規模で問題となっている環境問題の改善は、各地域ごとの小さな取り組み・活動が求められることから、私たちは、共に考え行動し、地球環境にやさしい「我(ばん)たが美(か)ぎ島(すま)・みゃ〜く」をつくることを宣言します。
１．私たちは、島の生活を支えるかけがえのない地下水を守ります。 　　　１．私たちは、美しい珊瑚礁の海を守ります。 　　　１．私たちは、みんなの知恵と工夫で、限りある資源とエネルギーを大切にします。 　　　１．私たちは、ゴミのない地球にやさしい美(か)ぎ島(すま)宮古(みゃ〜く)島(ずま)を目指し 　　　　　一人ひとり行動します。 　　　１．私たちは、よりよい地球環境を取り戻し・守るため、世界の人々とともに考え・行動し、 　　　　　未来へバトンタッチします。 　　　１．私たちは、緑・海・空を守り、すべての生物が共に生きていける環境づくりのため行動します。

Declaration of Eco Island Miyakojima
Our island of Miyakojima is a tropical island with colorful plants, an emerald-green ocean, and the shining sun. Surrounded by the sea, this low and flat island made from ancient coral reefs is vulnerable to typhoons and drought. Our most important issue is that we preserve the island’s ground water, as we rely upon its fresh water, which, as well as the sea, is an important element of our lives and industry. Now, in that improving global environmental issues small activities and challenges in all local areas are required, we declare to make our island beautiful and bring environmental awareness and activities together.
• We will protect our precious ground water which supports the island’s life. • We will protect our beautiful coral reefs and the sea. • We will conserve our limited resources and energy by using our wisdom and creativity. • We will act individually, aiming to make Miyakojima beautiful, tidy, and earth-friendly. • We will think and act together with the peoples of the world to preserve and protect our environment and pass it on to future generations. • We will protect our forests, sea, and air and act to make an environment in which all living things can co-exist.
